Acts 17:11 (GNT)
“The people there were more open-minded than the people in Thessalonica. They listened to the message with great eagerness, and every day they studied the Scriptures to see if what Paul said was really true.”
The scriptures in Acts 17:1-15 describes two kinds of people to whom the message of Jesus is preached to. At the start of the chapter, Paul preaches the gospel to the Jews in Thessalonica of which some hardline Jews became jealous of the message that they stirred up the people and sent the city to an uproar.
When Paul left Thessalonica, he went to Berea and the scriptures tell us that the Bereans were different, they searched out the scriptures day and night to see if what Paul said was really true. How I love the spirit of the Bereans. Many times we have also acted like the Thessalonica Jews. When we hear any message that sounds new to our ears, do we take time to study the scriptures and find out if they were so, or do we just believe or criticise without finding the truth ourselves.
Let's all take an example from the Berean people to always search the truth ourselves without first criticising. Let's not just leave messages on the pulpits after the sermon but let's make it a habit to go past the pulpit spoken word by engaging the scriptures ourselves.
God bless your day
