Philippians 4:19 (KJV) “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” We all love quoting this scripture from the Bible but very few understand its genesis. This was a prayer by Paul for the Philippians. The Philippians were so generous compared to all other churches Paul had been to. So Paul’s prayer was intended for the Philippians to experience the blessings that issued from their generosity towards him. It is not that God is not capable of supplying needs to everyone. He is moved by the generosity of his children. When the poor widow gave all she had, Jesus was so quick in commending her generosity (Luke 21:1-4). The Shunamite woman in 2Kings 4:8-17 was so generous to Elisha that Elisha was not able to sleep until he proclaimed a blessing for her. Giving is like planting and harvesting. You harvest what you plant. Even the water bodies are an example to us in illustrating the principle of giving and receiving. The lakes that have both inlets and outlets are fresh water lakes but those with only inlets minus outlets are salty lakes. Do you want to be salty or fresh?
