You are a Spirit with a Soul in the Body

Genesis 2:7 (KJV) “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” The Bible teaches us of two Adams. The first Adam existed at the time of creation and the second Adam (Jesus) came to redeem the world due to the failure of the first Adam. Why is it that the first Adam failed and the second didn’t? Let’s try to understand that in the few sentences below. In 1 Corinthians 15:45, the bible says that the first Adam was a living soul and the second Adam is a life giving spirit. Living soul means that the first Adam’s reasoning, logic and emotion fully depended on the external reactions directed towards the body. The body and soul were part and parcel of the first Adam, that’s why he could not resist Eve when she brought him the forbidden fruit to eat. Jesus the life giving Spirit also had a body soul and spirit. However, unlike the first Adam, Jesus trained his soul to react to the divine through his spirit. That’s why the devil could not tempt him. The devil tempts by using the things that appeal to the flesh (body) to attract the attention of your soul. If your spirit man is not built up, your soul will always go with what the body desires. Jesus always overcame temptations by applying knowledge he knew of the spirit world which was contrary to what the body wanted. For example, after fasting for forty days, Jesus’ body was weak and surely needed food (Matthew 4:1-11), so the devil wanted to take the opportunity of Jesus’ flesh weakness to destroy his mission. But oh boy, this Jesus was a man from above whose spirit was so built up to give chance to fleshly desires. Likewise you and I should emulate and take example of Jesus if we are to overcome this sinful world. In the next breads, we shall understand how we can align our own body soul and spirit to the level of Jesus our example. *Further* *study* 1 Corinthians 15:45-58
