2 Timothy 3:16 (KJV) “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” In the previous devotion, we exhaustively discussed the writer of the first foundational books (Pentateuch) of the Old Testament who is Moses. In today’s Bread, Paul shows us in the above verse that every scripture in the Bible is given by inspiration of God. All the writers of the different books of the Bible be it Old Testament (OT) or New Testament (NT) did not use their own wit and wisdom but were inspired by God Himself. For example, John the writer of Revelation tells us in Revelation 1:11, that it was the Lord who commanded him to write everything he saw of the revelation of Jesus Christ. Just as it was commanded to John to write Revelation, many other writers of the Bible were inspired by God. To show that the message is from God Himself, you will often find statements like, “Thus says the Lord” or “The word of the Lord came to me” in many OT books. This is indicative of the source of the message which is God. Likewise in the NT, the epistles and letters written by Paul were qualified as scripture by Peter when he writes about him in 2 Peter 3:15-16. Firstly Peter acknowledges that everything Paul wrote was with wisdom from God and secondly he equates his writings with scripture in verse 16. The main aim of this devotion was not to exhaustively mention every writer of every biblical book but to show to us that behind the writing of every scripture, there was an inspiration by God. That’s why we ought to trust and believe every word in the scripture because it is God’s word as opposed to what some think as man’s wisdom.
