Why do we need the new covenant through Jesus Christ? (Part 1)
Hebrews 8:7 (GNT) “If there had been nothing wrong with the first covenant, there would have been no need for a second one.” After acquiring a basic understanding of what the Bible is, let’s now delve into its content. There are two covenants explicitly described in the Bible. One through Moses and the other through Christ. Don’t be deceived, the two covenants are different and your life will be defined basing on the covenant you subscribe to. It’s unfortunate that very few Christians can tell the difference. In the next daily’s, we shall dwell much on this subject until we all get a clear cut difference of the two. The old covenant through Moses is based on the law and the new covenant through Jesus is entirely grace. Romans 7:14 says, “We know that the law is spiritual, but I am not. I am so human. Sin rules me as if I were its slave.” You see, when you relate with the law, you are dealing with something which is spiritual and yet you are human and it is impossible for flesh to relate with spirit. They are always in opposition. That’s why you can’t stop sinning when you are under the law. Galatians 5:18 says, “But if you let the Spirit lead you, you are not under law.” When you and I became born again, we undeservedly received the Spirit of God. It is this Spirit that leads us and shelves us from sinning. So the difference here is, the law is spiritual and yet can’t keep you from sinning because of your human nature, but in grace, you receive the Spirit Himself who becomes your personal guide. That’s why Jesus came to effect that change from the law of Moses to the Spirit of Grace so that you and I are led by God Himself.
