Weakness of the law (old covenant)
Romans 7:7 (ERV) “You might think I am saying that sin and the law are the same. That is not true. But the law was the only way I could learn what sin means. I would never have known it is wrong to want something that is not mine. But the law said, “You must not want what belongs to someone else.”” In itself, the law is perfect and holy, but, its biggest disadvantage is that, it identifies and defines what sin is. Now, because human flesh by nature is rebellious to the rules and regulations, the law becomes a perfect passage through which sin is committed. It was by one single law (Genesis 2:16-17) broken by Adam that caused the entire human flesh to suffer today. The law makes you want to try out something that is forbidden and because you can’t control your urge for it, you find yourself doing it. As Paul rightly notices, without the law, there is no sin. Before the commandments were given through Moses, Abraham was a very good friend of God. God once visited him to bring good news about the birth of Isaac of which Sarah his wife laughed in disbelief because she was very old to bear children. When God asked why she laughed, in fear, she said she didn’t laugh. Nothing happened to Sarah because there was no law that said do not lie (Genesis 18:11-15). So without the law, there is no sin. That’s why we must embrace the law of Christ which points us to righteousness. It’s absolutely your choice to either remain in Moses or embrace Christ.
