Beware of those who twist the scriptures
John 7:50-52 (GNT) “One of the Pharisees there was Nicodemus, the man who had gone to see Jesus before. He said to the others, “According to our Law we cannot condemn people before hearing them and finding out what they have done.” “Well,” they answered, “are you also from Galilee? Study the Scriptures and you will learn that no prophet ever comes from Galilee.”” When you read John 7:45-52, you will realise that the Pharisees were adamant to believe the truth proclaimed by Jesus. They never took time to find out details of Jesus, his birth and everything associated with him. They simply closed out any association with Him. In verse 49, they even accused people (crowd) for not knowing the law of Moses just because they believed and followed Jesus. Yet when you come to think of it, it’s the Pharisees that knew nothing of what they preached. They made wrong conclusions and misrepresented facts to make their case against Jesus. For example in verse 52, the Pharisees wrongly concluded that no prophet ever comes from Galilee because Jesus was a Galilean. But how wrong they were! the Bible gives us a number of prophets who actually emerged from Galilee, say for example Prophet Jonah was from Gath Hepher a town in Galilee (2 Kings 14:25). Even today, there are Pharisee-like people who always twist the scriptures for their maintenance of power. They will always accuse others for petty things just because they are Bishops, or whatever position and rank they hold. They will ignore the truth preached by others to full-fill their selfish desires. Beware of such people and always such the scriptures yourself to dig out the truth just like the Bereans did when Paul preached to them.
