You are not under the law
Deuteronomy 14:21 (AMP) ““You shall not eat anything that dies on its own. You may give it to the stranger (resident alien, foreigner) who is in your [city] gates, so that he may eat it, or you may sell it to a foreigner [since they are not under God’s law], but you are a people holy (set apart) to the LORD your God. You shall not boil a young goat or a lamb in its mother’s milk.” One thing that should be understood today is that when one submits oneself to the Lord Jesus, he becomes a child of God through the promise made to Abraham. As a Christian, you are not an Israelite and should not act like one. The inclusiveness to the promise of God is through Abraham and not Jacob (Israel) whose descendants the Israelites were under an Exclusive policy that separated them from the rest of the world. So, ‘Not everything you read in the Old Testament is applicable to the Christian today.’ Nonetheless, the written word is there to help us appreciate where we’ve come from and show us where we are heading to. For example, Deuteronomy 14, gives us a list of animals to be eaten and those abominable to eat. When today’s Christian that is still an infant in the faith reads that portion of scripture, he may want to apply it hindering himself from the many delicacies freely given by God to eat. The Israelites were given those food laws and others to show a distinction between them and the pagan world because they were Holy to God. Today you and I have a share in the kingdom of God, and we are not under the law. The law excludes people but our story is an inclusive one in Christ. It’s in Christ where we get to know what to do and not to do guided by our teacher the Holy Spirit. Foods and races are no longer barriers for our access to God. But ours is the love of God and the love of others that guides our daily living. So I pray you get to understand everything you read in the Bible through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
