It’s God who makes things pure
Acts 10:13-15 (GNT) “A voice said to him, “Get up, Peter; kill and eat!” But Peter said, “Certainly not, Lord! I have never eaten anything ritually unclean or defiled.” The voice spoke to him again, “Do not consider anything unclean that God has declared clean.”” As a continuation from yesterday’s devotion. Today we explore a New Testament person in the name of Peter. Peter certainly knew the law and he didn’t want to defy it at any single moment. He only didn’t realise that in Christ, he was not supposed to be under the law. In a vision, all kinds of animals were shown Peter and he was commanded to kill and eat. But he objected because they were unclean to him according to the law. In the Old Testament, the definition of clean and unclean was more of symbolism. By then, the Israelites were the clean people and they demonstrated that by what they ate and many other laws that were only practiced by them. Outsiders were considered unclean because they ate all sorts of things and never practiced the Israelites law. When Peter got caught in the trance as described in the scriptures above, God was showing him that he had opened a door for outsiders as well to be a part of Him. So the meaning of unclean stopped holding water. The same God who declared unclean is the same God that has made us clean and inclusive in Christ’s Kingdom. We give all glory to him. So don’t think that there is food today that is unclean and unfit to eat. That was an old practice that held meaning then. Don’t hinder yourself from enjoying the beautiful meat God has created.
